Kathryn L. Hammers

As a Shareholder at Brown & Carlson since 2019, Katie practices exclusively in workers’ compensation defense and is licensed in Minnesota and Wisconsin. With experience that includes arguing cases before the Minnesota Workers’ Compensation Court of Appeals, she represents insurers, employers and self-insured employers across a wide range of industries, with particular experience in construction, healthcare (including nursing homes and personal care attendants), factory work, and professional health services, working closely with each to develop strategic litigation plans tailored to each case.

With an eye for detail, Katie manages claims at all stages, from file referral and investigation through trial, appeal, and resolution and routinely handles claims at the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, the Office of Administrative Hearings, and the Union Construction Workers’ Compensation Program (UCWCP). She has extensive training in Medicare Compliance and regularly presents on workers’ compensation topics, including at the 2025 Minnesota Workers’ Compensation Institute.

Outside of work, Katie enjoys reading, crafting, and traveling, and stays active with her two boys on long walks and outdoor adventures.
